Birmingham University Medical School is currently training well over 1000 students to become doctors.  Training this many students is a massive task as so is shared across many of the hospitals and practices in the West Midlands.

At the Kings Norton Surgery we are very proud of the fact that we have been chosen to take part in this teaching.  It shows that we are a modern practice with a high standard of care.  It shows that the doctors are experienced and skilled to provide this teaching.

Dr Jenny Pash is the Year One tutor.  She teaches 8 students who are in the first year of their medical training.  Everything is new and exciting for them and it is a great time to provide them with a strong foundation for the coming years.

These 8 students return to us in their second year and Dr Catherine Coward is their tutor.  This year builds on what they have already learnt and takes them into new areas of medicine as well.  This is an important year for them as it is their preparation for moving into the hospitals.

As we are a relatively small practice we don't have 3rd and 4th year students but some return in their 5th year for a 2 or 3 week block.  Dr Andrew Coward supervises this and it is a time for the student to really learn about General Practice.  This is their final year of study before becoming a junior doctor.

Just like the Registrar Training, teaching students means that the Doctors keep up to date with everything in medicine.  So in turn the care that our patients receive is as high a standard as it can be.

We constantly need people to be willing to come and talk to the students about their health related experiences.  This usually fits in with the topic of the day.  The students also have to learn to examine patients and so if you are willing for them to take your blood pressure or have your reflexes tested then that will be very welcome.

If you are willing to help us and the doctors of the future then please let us know.
